VANCOUVER, 19 December 2024 – Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin handed over copies of the “75 Faces of Migration” book to notable individuals featured in the publication: MLA Mable Elmore, Rhea Santos, and Dorothy Uytengsu, on  19 December 2024 at the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver.  These three personalities attended the Meet and Greet event with the Filipino Community organized by the Consulate on the same day.

MLA Mable Elmore made history in British Columbia in 2009 when she became the first Filipino Canadian to be elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. She represents the Vancouver-Kensington constituency, and she remains the only Filipino Canadian MLA in the province.

Rhea Santos, a renowned broadcast journalist and host in the Philippines for two decades, moved to Canada as an international student in 2019. By 2020, she became a video journalist and news anchor of OMNI News Filipino, the first daily Canadian national newscast in Filipino, amplifying the Filipino voice in Canadian media.

Dorothy Uytengsu, a gifted pianist, represents the artistic talents of Filipinos who have enriched Canada’s cultural landscape with their creativity and passion for the arts.

During the handover ceremony, Consul General Jamoralin commended the featured personalities for their inspiring stories and achievements.

The “75 Faces of Migration” initiative is part of the ongoing celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Canada. This book is a tribute to the Filipino diaspora in Canada, celebrating their resilience, diversity, and success. It brings to life stories of Filipinos from various professions and walks of life who have overcome challenges and achieved remarkable milestones, contributing significantly to Canada’s social, cultural, and economic development.
