04 July 2023 – A delegation from the Philippines led by Commission on Higher Education Chairman Julian Prospero De Vera attended the BC International Education Week (BCIEW) which was held in Victoria, British Columbia (BC) from 26 to 28 June 2023. CHED was joined by Consul General Arlene T. Magno, Consul Ericka Anna Abad and representatives of higher education institutions (HEIs) from the Philippines.
Chairman De Vera provided the conference attendees with updates on the Philippine government’s efforts to internationalize its higher education to ensure that Filipino students will have access to quality education and will continue to be the recruit-of-choice should they decide to pursue their professions abroad. Chairman De Vera also expressed CHED’s interest to cooperate with Canada in Health Sciences, Adult Education, Information Technology, Micro-credentials, UN Sustainable Goals, Collaborative Online International Learning and Agriculture.
Philippine HEIS took advantage of the BCIEW to create new and solidify existing linkages with their Canadian counterparts by signing agreements at the sidelines of the conference. These agreements include MOUs between the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and Capilano University, UPLB and Dalhouise University, World Citi Colleges and-British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA) and BCIT, and Miriam College and Camosun College.
The BCIEW is an annual conference that is organized by the BC Council for International Education to bring together delegates from countries around the world to discuss, share and learn about the diverse field of international education.
