On 26 November 2023, the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) kicked off the CBIE 2023 Conference in Vancouver with several pre-conference events, one of them being the Canada-ASEAN Partnership Forum, held at the Vancouver Convention Center. As part of the opening program, the ASEAN Consuls General were asked to deliver some remarks.
Consul General Arlene Magno thanked the CBIE, on behalf of the Philippine government, for providing the critical space for institutional stakeholders and government representatives from Canada and the ASEAN to come together and discuss ways to deepen educational collaboration around the themes of Sustainable Development Goals and Internationalization Partnership. She highlighted Canada’s importance as an educational partner as evidenced by the close to 150 educational agreements so far forged, as well as by the growing population of Filipino international students in Canada today, and concluded that the Philippines stands with Canada and its ASEAN neighbors in the desire to advance education as a means to engage more closely with each other while moving forward on the universal goals of equity, progress and sustainability.
CHED Commissioner Marita Canapi led the Philippine delegation of CHED officials and presidents and representatives of 11 participating Philippine higher education institutions to the annual conference, where international educational professionals from across Canada and around the world meet.END
