17 January 2024, Vancouver – The 75th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Canada was commemorated with a Thanksgiving Mass held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver on 16 January 2024.
The Mass, which was presided over by Archbishop J. Michael Miller, brought together members of the Filipino-Canadian community, diplomats, and dignitaries to offer gratitude for the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Following the Mass, a reception commenced with an opening remarks delivered by Philippine Consul General Arlene T. Magno. She said that the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Canada have not only supported political and economic goals but have also fostered people-to-people ties. Consul General Magno thanked the Government and people of Canada enough for offering a welcoming environment to the Filipino community.
MP Don Davies, a prominent advocate for the Filipino-Canadian community, took the stage to deliver remarks that resonated with the spirit of collaboration and friendship that defines the diplomatic relations between the two nations. Archbishop Miller then blessed the food, emphasizing the importance of shared meals and shared moments in fostering cultural understanding.
The event was a testament to the unity and warmth that characterize the relationship between the Philippines and Canada. END
