Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver Attends a Briefing on and Tour of the Port of Vancouver

19 September 2023 – Upon the invitation of the World Trade Centre Vancouver, Consul General Arlene T. Magno and Economic Assistant Edwin Batallones joined members of the Consular Corps of BC and the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade in a briefing held at the Port of Vancouver.

Mr. Duncan Wilson, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Vice President for Environment and External Affairs, presented on the Port’s mandate, importance in British Columbia’s economy, role in facilitating world trade, top trading partners, and the top commodities/goods that pass through it. The Port of Vancouver handles bulk, containers, breadbulk cargo, automobiles and cruise ship.  He likewise noted the increase in cruise ship passengers this year, because of the lifting of travel restrictions.

Mr. Gold Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada spoke about the factors that affect the business climate in Canada and contribute to the country’s sound economic policies.  The afternoon ended with a harbour cruise tour of the port in the Burrard Inlet.  END
