February 27, 2025, Makati - Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar received Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin at the DOT Office in Makati last February 27, 2025 to discuss possible collaboration between the DOT and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver. Consul General Jamoralin was in the Philippines to participate in the recently concluded 2025 Winter Escapade Tour, a tourism project of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Tourism and the Philippine foreign service posts in Canada. The yearly tourism project brings Filipino-Canadians to the different destinations around the Philippines to showcase Philippine culture, cuisine and tourism.
Undersecretary Abubakar and Consul General Jamoralin discussed the potential of exploring the halal tourism and food market in Canada as a way to promote Mindanao as a culinary center for halal food in Southeast Asia.
Consul General Jamoralin highlighted the opportunities for collaboration in various cultural projects in British Columbia, Yukon and Northern Territories in Canada, provinces under the consular jurisdiction of Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, to promote Philippine halal tourism and gastronomy taking advantage of more than 170,000 Filipino migrants in these provinces.
