VANCOUVER, 08 July 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver hosted an art exhibit showcasing the exceptional works of Mr. Leo “Jun” Cunanan, Jr. on 05 July 2024 at the Consulate premises. This event is part of the Consulate’s initiative to highlight the talent and creativity of Filipino Canadian artists and promote Filipino identity.
Consul General Arlene T. Magno, in her opening remarks, commended not only Jun’s artistic endeavors but his dedication to helping new immigrants and businesses as well as raising the profile of Filipinos in the community.
Jun Cunanan’s artworks featured a variety of medium including oil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and digital art. He dedicated this exhibit to his father, Leo Cunanan, Sr., and his mentor, Mr. SYM Mendoza, a renowned Filipino artist who taught and inspired him to paint.
The exhibit also showcased twelve of the design covers that the artist did for Dahong Pilipino, the only Filipino online/print community and business directory in British Columbia founded by his late father. Jun Cunanan is currently the President of the Dimasalang III International Artist Group and this year, through his involvement with the arts and the Filipino community, he had been honored as one of the ten (10) Canadian Filipino Net’s Outstanding Canadian Filipinos.
The exhibit is open to the public and will run through 30 September 2024. END
