VANCOUVER 20 NOVEMBER 2024 – The City of Vancouver hosted a luncheon and briefing session for its international partners on 20 November 2024 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver.
In her first official function after assumption of post in Vancouver, newly arrived Consul General Dr. Gina A. Jamoralin represented the Philippine Consulate General at the event alongside Members of the British Columbia Consular Corps. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim welcomed the guests in his remarks.
The overall aim of the event is to give an update and inform the City’s international partners about the City’s plans and strategic priorities. A very essential topic was the matter of housing policy and regulations wherein the City’s goal is to shift new housing plans toward the “Right Supply” (rental and non-market) to address a diversity of incomes and building forms, and support marginalized residents. Affordable housing initiatives were presented in light of the significant challenges faced with housing affordability.
Furthermore, the City Council will continue to focus on urban safety and security on the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, a neighborhood known to be the epicenter of the “overdose and homelessness crises” in the city, region and province of British Columbia. With the priority plans in place, the Vancouver City Council is striving and exerting efforts to build a sustainable city in which everyone can live, work and thrive amidst diversity and adversities.
Consul General Dr. Jamoralin was joined by other consular corps members at the table hosted by Vancouver Councillor Lenny Zhou during lunch. END
