“MANA: CONVERSATIONS WITH FILIPINO CULTURE BEARERS” – A CONVERSATION WITH BERNADETH OFONG

The T’Boli are well known for their t’nalak, a fabric sourced from abaca and created using patterns from the dreams of the weaver.

Bernadeth was taught how to weave the t’nalak at a young age by her mother. Today, she is one of the few cultural masters of the Philippines, recognized for her expertise in the arts of the T’Boli. She is also the founder of Klowil Kem Libun, an organization that supports weaving and seeks to empower T’Boli women.

In our conversation with her, Bernadeth shares her hope to pass on her skills to younger generation T’Boli through her classes at the School of Living Traditions.  She shares her thoughts on her heritage and her hope that others take time to understand and value the traditions and beliefs that are the foundation of their works.
