Filipino Cuisine Takes Center Stage at COOKSCAMP 2024’s Cultural Dinner

PEMBERTON, 12 September 2024 – The rich and diverse flavors of Filipino cuisine were the highlight of Cooks Camp 2024 Cultural Dinner held on 10 September 2024 at the North Arm Farm in Pemberton, British Columbia.

Organized by the Chef’s Table Society of British Columbia, the Cooks Camp event was designed to modernize the Canadian culinary industry.  Attended by more than 200 culinary industry professionals from across Canada, the two-day event served as a platform for establishing a Culinary Arts Centre, showcasing cutting-edge tools and talents, and fostering educational opportunities.

The Filipino Cultural Dinner featured a grand Kamayan or Filipino Boodle Fight prepared by talented Filipino-Canadian chefs, namely, TJ Conwi, Antonio Martin, Mark Singson, Derrick Sibayan, Carl Sanchez, Janice Quinto, Andrew Alojado, and Lloyd Taganahan. The Boodle Fight offered attendees a unique and immersive dining experience that emphasized community gathering.

Philippine Consul General Arlene T. Magno, in her opening remarks, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to spotlight Filipino culinary traditions on such an important platform. She said that the event is a proud representation of Filipino heritage as well as a reflection of the dynamic and evolving nature of Filipino culinary traditions. She commended the participating Filipino chefs who have brought their skills, passion, and creativity to the table and for making their mark in the Canadian culinary landscape.

The event was a resounding success, not only in its goal of showcasing Filipino cuisine but also in building bridges between cultures through the universal language of food. This year’s focus on Filipino cuisine is a significant step forward in the growing recognition of Filipino food on the global stage. END
