ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver Donate Books to the Vancouver Public Library (VPL)

09 February 2024 – The ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver (ACGV), comprising the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, handed over a collection of books that showcase the rich heritage, history, and literature of their respective countries to the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) during a simple ceremony held on 08 February 2024.
As the current Chairperson of the ACGV, Philippine Consul General Arlene T. Magno thanked the VPL for welcoming ACGV’s donation and for providing a platform where these books can be accessed by the wider community. She said that the Consulates are not only sharing knowledge but also fostering greater understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures represented within the ASEAN region.
Ms. Karen Spears, Vice Chair of the Vancouver Public Library Board, extended her appreciation to the ASEAN Consuls General for the donation and conveyed that they look forward to incorporating the collection in the VPL system soon.
The event was attended by representatives from the ASEAN Consulates General in Vancouver, officials from the Vancouver Public Library, and members of the media and the community, symbolizing the spirit of unity and cooperation between the ASEAN community and Vancouver.
A reception was held after the brief book donation ceremony at the Josef Wosk Poet’s Room. END
