02 December 2024 – Consul Ericka Anna Abad attended the reception hosted by the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development of Canada, which was held in Richmond, BC on 29 November 2024. Officials and representatives of the Consulates General of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam, business organizations, officers of various organizations, and leaders and members of the Filipino Community were also in attendance in the said reception that was organized to celebrate past, present and future Team Canada Trade Mission in the ASEAN region.
In her remarks, Minister Ng underscored the importance of trade missions in Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy given that said missions enhance people-to-people ties. With ASEAN being the 4th largest trading partner of Canada, Minister Ng expressed hope that the trade mission in Jakarta and Manila will not only create synergies and business opportunities but will also deepen relations between Canada and ASEAN.
The aforementioned trade mission will bring more than 300 companies and organizations from Canada’s priority sectors, which include agriculture, clean technologies and clean energy, to the capitals of the Philippines and Indonesia to participate in networking opportunities with local businesses. On-site business briefings by Trade Commissioners, senior officials, and key local industry players, roundtable discussions with local industry experts and pre-arranged business to business meetings are also included in the trade mission’s program.
Minister Ng proudly shared with the attendees of the reception that the trade mission in Manila and Jakarta is Canada’s biggest trade mission so far.END
