Three Ates and a Wedding Featured at the 28th Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF)

Vancouver, 12 November 2024. The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver attended the premiere of the short film entitled “Three Ates and a Wedding” at the 28th Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) held at the Cineplex Odeon International Village on 08 November 2024.

Directed and written by Mr. Kevin Ang, “Three Ates and a Wedding” is one of the six (6) Asian short films featured at the VAFF. The Filipino creative team behind the film are Mr. Phil Planta, Ms. Lumen Beltran and Mr. Carlo Fortin. The Vancouver production also showcased a group of Filipino talents cast in different family roles as aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc.

This short film is a light-hearted comedy that explores the sibling rivalry between three sisters on the day of their youngest brother’s wedding. It pokes fun and embraces the hilarious elements of a Filipino wedding set in a North American setting. The film captures the complexities of Filipino family life, weaving in humor and cultural nuances.

The Philippine Consulate was proud to witness the warm reception of “Three Ates and a Wedding” at VAFF, as it reflects the growing representation of Filipino voices in Canadian cinema. This film also showcases the vibrant talent and unique perspectives of Filipino-Canadian filmmakers in British Columbia.

VAFF will run from 07 to 17 November 2024.
