30 AUGUST 2024, Burnaby, B.C. – Vancouver PCG personnel attended the second day of the 2024 Taste of Manila - British Columbia Festival, organized by the Philippine Days Festival Society (PDFS). The event was a 2-day festival held at the Central Park in Burnaby, BC from August 24-25, 2024.
This was the first time that Taste of Manila was mounted in BC, but the festival has been an annual fixture in Toronto, ON since 2014.
Vice Consul Marco Frederick B. Harder represented the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver. In his remarks, he highlighted that these events demonstrate the strong spirit of community, solidarity, and friendship among the Filipino diaspora in Canada. He also noted that these gatherings provide an opportunity to connect and interact with others among the community, provide information and insight on the Consulate’s ongoing work in supporting the various initiatives of the Filipino community in British Columbia, and engage local officials. VC Harder added that the innate sense of community and spirit of bayanihan are drivers of the high level of engagement of Filipinos in Canada’s diverse and multicultural society.
A parade by the BC Regiment Band and Taste of Manila - BC’s sponsors followed after the speeches. Filipino singer Hajji Alejandro also performed several OPM numbers to cap off the event.
An estimated 7,000 people attended the two-day event. END
