21 June 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver hosted a hybrid signing event of two Memoranda of Agreement between Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), aimed at elevating the standards of nursing education and research in both countries.

The MOU on Academic Research Cooperation between the UST and Dalhousie University had been signed earlier by UST’s Acting Rector, Rev. Fr. Isaias Antonio D. Tiongco, O.P., JCD, and was signed, as witness, by Professor Rowena Chua, Dean of the College of Nursing.  For the MOU on Cooperative Relationship of the Nursing Programs between the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Dalhousie University, President Prof. Domingo Y. Reyes, Jr. was  virtually present for the signing. Vice President for Government and Global Relations Matt Hebb signed both agreements for Dalhousie University.

The signing ceremony was timed during the visit in Vancouver of Chairman Julian Prospero E. de Vera III of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), at the sidelines of the CHED’s participation in the BC International Education Week held in  Vancouver on 23-26 June 2024.  In his opening remarks, Chair De Vera said that the agreements symbolize a shared commitment to fostering academic excellence, international collaboration, and mutual growth between two of the top Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) in nursing and Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.

These collaborations mark a new chapter in the collective efforts to enhance the quality of education and research in the Philippines and Canada and also highlight the need for CHED and the Department of Advanced Education of the Province of Nova Scotia to formalize their own MOU to further strengthen their commitment to academic excellence and internationalization of education and ensure a more coordinated and comprehensive approach to their educational partnerships, the Chair added. END.
