Invitation – 30 Days of Filipino Music: A Celebration
The Philippine Consulate, together with Philippine Days 2020 and MVPACES, invites you to the inaugural day of Tatlumpung Araw ng Himig Pilipino: Isang Pagbubunyi! (Thirty Days of Filipino Music: A Celebration!) as we celebrate Filipino Heritage Month in Canada and the 122nd Philippine Independence Day. This month-long virtual event will feature a collection of performances, whether it is musical, visual or aural of Filipino songs that captured the hearts of Filipinos and Non-Filipinos throughout the world.
Day 1 of Philippine Days 2020 – features various musical renditions of “Ang Pipit,” a popular Filipino folk song by National Artist Levi Celerio about a bird that is called Pipit (Eng. sparrow), and an indigenous musical presentation of Lupa ay Buhay and Indak Indak (Bagobo Parade Dance)…view here
Day 2 – Vancouver’s very own Mr. Jono Hilario, Viva recording artist, and Mr. Jonathan Tamondong, saxophonist, performing “HIMIG NATIN” by the Juan Dela Cruz band. We are also joined by Kathara with their diwata blessing song, Uhay Manama, and a Bagobo dance, Tagtunumya. And the final performance of the day, with a very entertaining rendition of DA COCONUT NUT song (composed by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab) by the Baylor University Men’s Choir. Day 3 – Fil-Can composer and singer, Ms. Kylie Fonacier, joins us today as she performs “Kay Ganda ng Musika” an original composition of National Artist “Maestro” Ryan Cayabyab. A short clip of two sisters from Russia singing Eraserheads, “Alapaap” will also entertain us.
