25 SEPTEMBER, Surrey, BC – In celebration of this year’s Maritime Awareness and Archipelagic Nation Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver mounted an art activity in cooperation with the Museum of Surrey and Canada-based Filipino artist Charlie Frenal last 21 September 2024 at the Museum of Surrey Town Hall.
The art activity centered around the theme of preserving maritime treasures. For this activity, artist Charlie Frenal created blank templates depicting marine life and underwater scenery. Participants were then provided materials to complete these templates through the collage method, which made the activity more inclusive and fun as both children and parents could collaborate in completing the painting.
Participants of the activity also had the opportunity to see three of Charlie’s works depicting rural shoreline scenes against the backdrop of the sun rising over the horizon.
Consul Analyn Ratonel graced the activity and expressed the Consulate’s appreciation for Charlie's continued work in supporting Filipino art and artists in Canada, as well as his contributions to enhancing awareness of the Philippines as a maritime nation among his audience.
The Philippines celebrates the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness month every September in accordance with Proclamation No. 316, s. 2017. During this month, the Philippine government and its agencies implement programs and activities that aim to raise awareness and consciousness on maritime and archipelagic issues and concerns. END
