12 August 2024 – The men and women of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, led by Consul General Arlene T. Magno, joined the annual “Pista ng Bayan” hosted by the United Filipino Canadian Associations in British Columbia (UFCABC) at the Robson Square in downtown Vancouver on 8 August 2024. Pista ng Bayan is the last of three major activities organized by the UFCABC to celebrate Philippine Independence Day and Filipino Heritage Month in Vancouver.
In her opening remarks, Consul General Magno commended the UFCABC for being at the forefront of gathering the community and providing the occasion for Filipinos to showcase the traditions, attire, cuisine, music and talent to their Canadian friends. She added that, in celebrating 75 years of friendship with Canada, events like these continue to bridge gaps, build connections and strengthen the bonds between our peoples.
Councillor Pete Fry represented the City of Vancouver at the event, which began with a parade, followed by various entertainment numbers that included a fashion show by House of Musa Canada and culminated with the special guest appearance of Ms. Gerphil Flores, Asia’s Got Talent Golden Girl.
In addition to the food and non-food vendors, and service providers, at the Pista ng Bayan, the event featured artist Karissa Narukami and her kiddie art corner. Karissa is an extraordinarily talented young Filipino artist with autism whose artwork has earned the prestigious honor of being selected for the Lunar Codex Polaris Collection.
Pista ng Bayan celebrated its 9th anniversary this year. END
